Thanksgiving is a beautiful time of the year to pause, reflect, and give thanks—not just for good food and fun, but for the best gift of all: Jesus Christ.

This Thanksgiving Devotional for Kids is designed to help children connect to biblical truth, reflect on God’s Word, and build habits of gratitude through daily bible reading, prayer, and hands-on family fun.

Whether you’re using this as part of your weekly devotions, a homeschool rhythm, or around the dinner table, this devotional post will help your child develop a thankful heart during the Thanksgiving season.

Each day includes:

  • A full scripture reading
  • A “Heart Reflection” question
  • A simple prayer
  • A family-friendly activity
  • Keywords like thanksgiving bible verses, holy spirit, and bible stories to anchor each day’s focus.

Day 1: Every Good Thing Comes from God

Scripture: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” —James 1:17

  • Heart Reflection: What’s one little thing or good thing God gave you today that made you smile?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
Thank You for the wonderful things You give us every day—like sunshine, hugs, and smiles. You never change, and every gift from You is good. Help me to see and thank You for every blessing. Amen.
  • Activity: Start a gratitude journal or decorate a paper “Thankful Jar.” Every family member writes one blessing on a slip of paper to add each day.

Day 2: Give Thanks Always

Scripture: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” —1 Thessalonians 5:18

  • Heart Reflection: What’s one hard thing you can thank God for today?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
Sometimes I don’t feel thankful, especially when things are hard. But I know You are always with me. Help me give thanks in every moment because I belong to Christ Jesus. Amen.
  • Activity: Print out coloring pages of thanksgiving bible verses and color them while listening to worship music. Talk about how we can still praise God in the hard times.

Day 3: Thankful for People Who Help Us

Scripture: “Let the one who receives instruction in the word share all good things with their instructor.” —Galatians 6:6

  • Heart Reflection: Who is one person who teaches you or helps you love Jesus more?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
Thank You for the people—like parents, teachers, and leaders—who help us learn about You. Help me to be thankful and to show kindness to those who teach me Your biblical truth. Amen.
  • Activity: Write a thank-you note or draw a picture for someone who has helped you grow in faith (like a pastor, parent, or Sunday school teacher).

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Day 4: Jesus is the Best Gift

Scripture: “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” —2 Corinthians 9:15

  • Heart Reflection: Why is Jesus the best gift God ever gave us?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
Thank You for sending Jesus! He is the greatest gift in the whole world. Help me to never forget how much You love me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I can share that love with others. Amen.
  • Activity: Tell or act out bible stories about Jesus. Make a mini nativity or draw a picture of the manger to remember the gift of Jesus even during the holiday season.

Day 5: Thankful for God’s Word

  • Scripture: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” —Psalm 119:105
  • Heart Reflection: What is one verse or story from the Bible that helps you when you’re scared or sad?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
Thank You for the Bible. It teaches me right from wrong, gives me peace, and helps me know You better. I want to read it more and hide it in my heart. Help me love God’s Word every day. Amen.
  • Activity: Pick a memory verse to learn as a family. Create a poster or banner with it and hang it where everyone can see it.

Day 6: Thankful for Work and Service

Scripture: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for people.” —Colossians 3:23

  • Heart Reflection: What kind of hard work do you do at home or school that you can do for Jesus?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
Thank You that I can work and help others. Whether I clean my room or help a neighbor, help me do it with joy for You. I want to serve like Jesus. Amen.
  • Activity: Choose a family service project (cleaning a neighbor’s yard, baking cookies for a friend, helping a sibling). Celebrate serving with joy!

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Psalm 100:4

Day 7: Thank God Together

Scripture: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” —Psalm 100:4

  • Heart Reflection: What can we do together as a family to say “thank You” to God this Thanksgiving Day?
  • Prayer:
    Dear God,
We gather today to thank You with our whole hearts. Thank You for family, food, and faith. Most of all, thank You for Jesus. Help our family always remember to be thankful—not just today, but every day. We give You all our love and praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
  • Activity: Before the Thanksgiving meal, have each family member share one thing they’re thankful for this year. Then hold hands and praise God in a short song or prayer before eating.
