Activities using Conversation Hearts:

My favorite Valentine’s Day math activities include conversation hearts. I mean is there a better way to practice our basic math skills than with a little candy! All you need for this valentine’s day math activity is a box of candy hearts for each of your students.

1. Heart Counting Mats

Help your preschool and kindergarten students to develop number recognition and one-to-one correspondence with heart-themed counting mats. Draw a large heart on a piece of paper with a number written inside the heart. You can make several mats with different numbers in the hearts.

How to Use:

  • Print and laminate the mats for durability
  • Use candy hearts or small heart-shaped counters

Now let your young learners sort their conversation hearts by color. You can make your own sorting mat by drawing circles on a piece of paper and labeling the circles with the corresponding color word.
